AIMS Structured Master’s Program in Mathematical Sciences 2024-5 / Cooperative Education Master’s 2024-6

The AIMS Structured Master’s Program is a one-year degree in mathematical sciences offered at AIMS centers in South Africa, Senegal, Ghana, Cameroon, and Rwanda.

The AIMS Cooperative Education Master’s Program is an 18-month Master’s Program specializing in a specific domain of applied mathematical sciences. This program is conducted at AIMS centers in Senegal, Cameroon, and Rwanda.

This application portal serves both the Regular Structured Master’s Program in South Africa, Senegal, Ghana, Cameroon, and Rwanda, as well as the Cooperative Education Master’s Program (Co-op program) in Cameroon, Senegal, and Rwanda.

The Regular Structured Master’s Program spans three semesters. The AIMS course begins with a requisite skills phase, focusing on building a standard core set of problem-solving skills, including estimation, computation, approximation, modeling, data analysis, and statistics. In the elective review phase, students have the opportunity to apply these skills in various exciting areas of science. The final phase involves a research project, where students, under the guidance of an expert researcher, conduct research on a topic of their choice and subsequently write a scientific report. Many projects initiated during this phase lead to further postgraduate research work after the completion of the AIMS program.

The Cooperative Education Master’s Program closely mirrors the structure of the Regular Structured Master’s Program, with the key distinction that it is specifically designed for individuals seeking immediate employment in the industry upon graduation. This program comprises 10 months of courses at AIMS, focusing on a specific applied domain such as climate science, data science, artificial intelligence, computer security, and mathematical epidemiology (covering theoretical, practical, and scientific computing). Subsequently, students engage in a 6-month industry internship, coupled with research endeavors aimed at addressing one of the challenges faced by the host industry. The choice of specialization within the cooperative education program is contingent on the AIMS center providing the training.

Starting in the 2024–2025 academic year, the Cooperative Education Program is a fee-paying professional program offered across the entire AIMS Global Network. However, based on the specific center and the availability of funding, a limited number of full and/or partial scholarships will be awarded on an excellence basis. Interested students can apply for these scholarships after receiving admission into the program. Detailed information about scholarships will be provided in the admission emails and letters.
